A few favorite photos from Orcas...more to come!

We had a fabulous Father's Day weekend on Orcas! The family was able to get away on Friday and come back on the noon ferry on Sunday.  Even though we were only gone for 3 short days, it was quite relaxing and felt much longer. I've finished editing the couple hundred photos of family fun in the sunny San Juans,
but I must get ready for work tomorrow. Thus, I'll post a few favorites now and share more later this week!
Cheers!

Random roadside shots...

Are you ever in the car and wish you could take a photo? I usually give into these impulses when I'm in the passenger seat. For example, I love the Space Needle. I just had to take a picture as we passed by earlier this month.
This is a random picture as we were crossing the Hood Canal on our way to Port Townsend. I couldn't resist taking a quick photo. Okay, this is silly but I just had to add this sunset photo from the passenger seat. This is one of my favorite car photos from 2008! Isn't Horatio, the Siamese cat, the cutest?

Love at "First Sight"

I just found new artwork by Brittney Lee. I love it. It reminds me a little of Roman Holiday and Audrey Hepburn.

Princess Ann: At midnight, I'll turn into a pumpkin and drive away in my glass slipper. Joe Bradley: And that will be the end of the fairy tale.

"I love people who make me laugh. I honestly think it's the thing I like most, to laugh. It cures a multitude of ills. It's probably the most important thing in a person." Audrey Hepburn

I also enjoy this Oxford Print too!

Dreaming of Orcas Island...

Last night we decided to celebrate Father's Day, this weekend, on Orcas Island in the San Juans. I can't wait until Friday! We're taking a half day on Friday, then driving up to Anacortes, in hopes of beating the long, summer ferry lines.

I have several books I've been excited to read, particularly the Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest which will be fun while waiting in the ferry lines...Although if we have a really long wait, the ferry dock has a great rocky and sandy beach with phenomenal views. We love beach walks and mountainous panoramas.
It's been four years since I've taken the ferry from Anacortes to the San Juans. I hope we can see whales!

It was a gorgeous weekend when we went with Mr. F's family in July 2006.
We enjoyed the hotel so much that summer, we're going back. I promise to take tons of pictures. It's suppose to be be mid 60s and only a 10% chance of precipitation! It's going to be great weather with the family.
Check out the view from our hotel!
(Wow, I just found out on Wikipedia that "The name "Orcas" (pronounced /ˈɔrkəs/, like Orcusnot */ˈɔrkəz/ like the plural of orca) is a shortened form of Horcasitas, or Juan Vicente de Güemes Padilla Horcasitas y Aguayo, 2nd Count of Revillagigedo, the Viceroy of Mexico who sent an exploration expedition under Francisco de Eliza to the Pacific Northwest in 1791.")

Have you been to the San Juans Islands? Do you have a favorite island restaurant, or hike, or activity?

My weekend!

Friday night we went to a World Cup tasting at our favorite wine shop, Portalis

SPECIAL TASTING
Label_world cup 2010World Cup Tasting - Fri, Jun 11th
Celebrating the great wines of SOUTH AFRICA
Celebrate the spirit of the World Cup with this unbelievable line-up:
Graham Beck NV Brut Rosé
Southern Right 2009 Sauvignon Blanc
Mulderbosch 2008 Chenin Blanc
Hamilton Russell 2008 Chardonnay
Neil Ellis 2008 Pinotage
Hamilton Russell 2007 Pinot Noir
Stark-Conde 2005 Syrah
Warwick 2005 Three Cape Ladies

My favorites were the delicious pinotage and brut rose! Jens, the wine shop owner, always has amazing tasting.

Saturday, we discovered wineries in South Seattle. It was a real treat to taste Cadence wines. We also stopped at Nota Bene, OS winery, and Fall Line. Later that evening we had delectable barbecue chicken, amazing banana and black bean empanadas, and yummy salad at my good friend's house. We even roasted marshmallows over her fire pit after dinner.

Today, we had a great brunch at Portage Bay Cafe. I had the tasty Rancher's breakfast with eggs, bacon, potatoes, and challah French toast. I went to the signature topping bar and added fresh raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries. After a quick trip to REI, we ran 8 miles then had amazing Thai food in Old Ballard.

Now I'm super tired and just finished watching Whip It! It has been on my Netflix queue (with a very long wait) for months. Fortunately, it was worth the wait. Ellen Page was adorable as Bliss aka Babe Ruthless.

This week is going to be long with a few 12 days, but we're going to Orcas Island this weekend! I can't wait!

Perchance to Dream

Leap Year is a super cute movie!

Mr. F and I watched the movie, Leap Year, tonight.  It's very sweet and romantic. I love how the main characters fall in love. If your heart strings are pulled by lovely scenery and predictable yet gratifying storylines, you will fall for this movie. Personally, I'm dreaming of roaming the Irish countryside after watching this movie. Amy Adams is always so enchanting and adorable. Also the cute curmudgeon Declan, played by Matthew Goode, is so snappish and gruff. My husband says the ending is very Four Weddings and A Funeral. I say watch it and enjoy!

Robinson Crusoe

Have you ever read Robinson Crusoe? I absolutely loved this book growing up. Thus, my inner tomboy did a happy dance when I saw that the book had been made into a television show. It's a great adaptation. The scenery is so cool too. Crusoe and his friend, Friday, designed an amazing treehouse (set in the Seychelles) and have awesome MacGyver-esque tools and traps. If you liked the movie, Shipwrecked, or the television series, Legend of the Seeker, I highly recommend renting this series.

The mind is its own place, and in it self

—John Milton, Paradise Lost[source] The handsome Philip Winchester isn't hard to watch too. [source
I didn't remember the actor from Flyboys but I really enjoyed that movie too!  [source]

An afternoon at the family farm

My sister's graduation party was in Stanwood yesterday. It was so fun even if it was raining the entire time. We had good company, amazing live music, and great food. It was relaxing to sit in canvas chairs and listen to the rain on the metal roof above us. The country air was refreshing too. Here are some of my favorite photos!

I love this sign that my parents found at a country fair.
How sweet are these pink peonies in the pole barn, in a grain bucket?Congrats Janie and Chris on graduating from nursing school!!

My Favorite Things Today!

We had a fun and successful surprise birthday party for Nichole last night! I got a bunch of great photo too!

The amazing host, Alyson, coordinated a fabulous party in Eastlake then a trip to the infamous local bar, the Zoo!  Nearly all of Nichole's best-est friends were there!

How awesome is it that we found a group of guys in lederhosen to sing Happy Birthday to Nichole at the bar?!

And now we're off to celebrate my sister's graduation from Nursing school! Cheers!

P.S. I love the new Dove "my favorite things" advertisement with Lea Michele from Glee!

My husbands makes the greatest friends....

Today in line at Metropolitan Market, Mr. F exclaimed, "ooo, Cadeaux chocolates!" An older lady in her late 70s turned around in front of us and said, "eating too many of those will make you go...ooomph" as she puffed up her cheeks and held her arms out in a round matter. Mr. F quickly responded, "We just ran 10 miles today, so I don't feel bad about indulging." She then proceeded to ask us about what these balled up items were, around the cashier, and when I told her they were reusable bags, she replied in a deadpan manner, "I'm a BAG!"

Wow, you should have seen us crack up after she walked away. I'm still laughing a half hour later.

Needless to say, we didn't buy the chocolates because an old lady in line told us they make you fat.

Have you met J. Crew's little sister? Madewell?

Have you heard of Madewell? I've been reading a few blurbs about the new store and was curious to read more. J. Crew opened a few stores under the brand name of Madewell (in LA, Dallas, and NYC). (If you are curious, check out their website:http://www.madewell1937.com). Here are some of my favorites, the high summer dress                               and the summer plaid tunic. Don't these look like nice summer staples? Please let me know if you've been to a Maxwell store or own one of their pieces!!

Thoughtless Thursday...Pictures from college

This is Mr. F and me, our senior year of college. We were so cute and baby-looking, at 22!
It's Photobucket !!!

If you're not familiar with Thoughtless Thursday, check out Katie's cute blog!

Back in the day, life was full of fun exercise, like flag football and ballet. There were awesome costume parties, like when we all dressed up in togas. Or Winnie the Pooh and Piglet!! It was full of silliness and good friends. I do miss sorority teas and many excuses to dress up. I love looking at old pictures of college and having fond memories. My five year reunion is coming up and it's intimidating that it's already been that long. What are your favorite memories of college?
