[What is glassybaby? glassybaby is the name of a company that hand-produces a very special product of the same name... a small, colored, glass cup that can be used to hold candles, flowers, drinks… whatever the user chooses.

“glassybaby are useful in many ways,” writes Hector Rhodes, the son of glassbaby founder Lee Rhodes. “But their real use is lifting bad moods and loneliness. Their warm and colored light flickers like we do in everyday life. glassybaby serve as a metaphor to symbolize hope and are humble in spirit but not beauty. Whatever your mood, a glassybaby can keep your home inviting and full of spirit.”

glassybaby are made through a multi-layered glass-blowing process and their color comes from different shaded color rods to produce a mix of opaque, translucent, and deeply colored glasses. This method creates a thick, strong piece of glass that has many functions and uses. They come in over 70 different colors that you can mix to create a stunning, flickering picture for a quiet vigil or a bustling party. Shining out of a window, a glassybaby creates an aura of love and good that fills the heart of anyone on the sidewalk or street. To learn more, visit: www.glassybaby.com.]

OMG! I'm trying to eat less sugar and stay in shape for our winter vacation to Maui, but these cupcakes look soooo tempting. If I could only eat one food for the rest of my life, it would probably be cupcakes. This is supremely unhealthy, I know, but cupcakes seem to be always on my mind!

The song "6 Underground" by Sneaker Pimps
[Did you know that the harp melody at the beginning of the song is a
sample from the track "Golden Girl" from the soundtrack for the
1964 James Bond movie Goldfinger (specifically the scene where Bond
discovers Jill Masterson covered in gold paint).
I remember this song mostly from "The Saint" and "Can't Hardly Wait"!]

Encounters at the end of the world

Last night we watched "Encounters at the End of the World". It was a stunning and philosophical movie, not just about cute penguins in Antarctica.

The narrator, Werner Herzog (real name Werner H. Stipetic), asks bizarre questions, Bruno-style, like "can penguins go insane?" He must also ask each interviewee to tell him the most obscure or random thing about themselves. The first person interviewed is a self-proclaimed philosopher and forklift driver at the end of the world. When asked, 'how does one end up in Antarctica?' He replies, 'it's natural selection for people who want to jump off the margin of the map', "professional dreamers".

The people the director meets and interviews are interesting and complex characters with absolutely random hobbies. For example, the lively Volcanologist, Dr. Clive Oppenheimer from Cambridge, with curly hair and red cheeks like a hobbit, plays "My Name Is Jonas" by Weezer in one scene directly after applying riot-proof prison cameras at the top of an active volcano. The scene then cuts to a frozen sturgeon in a tunnel underneath the South Pole.

I highly recommend this movie for all nature lovers, just makes sure you're in the right mood for philosophy as well as stunning landscapes and underwater cathedrals....

Patty Murray

United States Senator, Washington State
"Early detection is critical to surviving breast cancer, and that is why I support campaigns like ‘Make a Mammogram Promise’ that encourage women to make a strong commitment to their health. I am working hard to increase federal funding for screening, treating and ultimately curing this terrible disease, and I encourage women across Washington state to join the effort to save lives."

Christine Gregoire

Governor, Washington State
"I am not a doctor, but I am a breast cancer survivor, and I urge all Washington women to do what I have done. Learn about the disease. Get regular check-ups. Be aware."

Fran Bigelow

Chocolatier, Fran's Chocolates
"A mammogram is so important to me that I have just made it part of my yearly check-up. I schedule it at the same time I make my appointment for my physical, so I always remember it."

Norah Jones - The Fall CD (Pre-Order): NorahJones.com

Norah Jones - The Fall CD (Pre-Order): NorahJones.com
"Chasing Pirates" is the first song on Norah Jones' latest album available November 17th. Follow the link to her website to hear it, or download it on iTunes.

Here's another song called, "Young Blood" from her upcoming album:

She seems to have taken more of a Rock approach to this album, as opposed to her Jazz influenced "Come Away with Me", and the more Country "The Little Willies".
